Frequently Asked Questions

What Does Therapy Look Like?

Let's remove a big unknown about what therapy is and establish predictability! Therapy will look and feel different for each person and depends on what you're feeling in the room. BlueRaven encourages emotional expression, identification, and empowerment through talking, playing, movement, and structured/ unstructured activities.

What's The Therapeutic Structure?

Like most answers, it depends on the purpose of therapy. For children under three years old, it is recommended to have the parent/caretaker present during sessions (i.e. dyadic). Children three and older can have individual, siblings, caregivers, or family sessions. BlueRaven will provide check-ins with family members and maintain relationships with all clients.

How Often Is Therapy?

The short answer, it ranges! When beginning therapy, a typical example is attending weekly appointments for 6-8 weeks and then stretching the time in between sessions (i.e. biweekly or monthly). The choice is yours and BlueRaven will discuss what feels right for you.

Who Can Join A Therapy Session?

The definition of family depends on each individual. For some, it is defined as biological relatives, while for others, they have created a chosen family. Depending on what's going on, therapy can be individual, dyadic (two people), or family. Therapy is flexible! If someone important needs to join, let's talk about how to make that happen. I welcome all gender identities, sexual orientations, cultural backgrounds, spiritual beliefs, and family configurations.

How Long Does Therapy Last?

There is no prescribed length and there are many things to consider including availability, goals, number of people in attendance, and commitment towards healing. Therapy length can also depend on the magnitude of the issues causing disruption or harm in your life. We will work together to support integration.

When Is Payment Collected?

BlueRaven accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Checks and payment is electronically stored on a HIPPA compliment service. BlueRaven provides one "freebie" for a late, cancelled (24 hours prior to an appointment), or no show appointment. However, after that, all appointments are automatically billed the full session rate. All charges occur the night of the scheduled appointment.

What is Play Therapy?

The Association for Play Therapy defines Play Therapy as “the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained Play Therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development." In other words, children communicate through play! When invited into their worlds, the therapist supports self-expression, self-knowledge, self-actualization, and self-efficacy.
