Sisterhood of Bones: A Grief & Puppetry Workshop

Sisterhood of Bones is a one-day (six hours) workshop for women navigating grief, currently offered exclusively to clients of BlueRaven Family Counseling or Michelle Bosco's private practice. Grounded in the belief that grief and play don't have to be kept apart, the workshop combines storytelling, movement, and hands-on art-making with puppets into a single held container for whatever you're carrying.

Before the Workshop: Each woman builds her own creation in individual therapy sessions in the weeks leading up to the workshop, working alongside Bryn or Michelle to shape a puppet from clay, fabric, found objects, and whatever materials speak to her grief. This isn't a craft project completed on the sidelines of therapy — it's part of the clinical work itself, giving shape to something that's often hard to reach with words alone.

The Workshop Day: On the day itself, each woman brings her finished puppet into a full day of story, guided movement, and private outdoor time to walk with what she's made. The day closes in a witnessing circle, where each woman is given protected time to tell her story — with her puppet in hand, in whatever way feels right — fully held by the rest of the group. No fixing. No advice. Just witnessing.

The Power of Art and Play: Grief and play have often been kept in opposite corners of our culture — as if making something with your hands means you're not taking the loss seriously enough, or that healing has to look somber to be real. We don't hold it that way here. Building a puppet isn't a break from grief work; it is grief work. Shaping something with your hands gives feeling a form before it has language — a way in for people who've found that talking alone doesn't reach everything they're carrying. The puppet becomes a container: not a metaphor you have to explain, but something you can literally hold, shape, and eventually let speak for you. And in the witnessing circle, that container gets to exist in front of other people who simply receive it, without trying to fix or interpret it. For many women, that combination — making something real with your hands, and then being fully seen holding it — reaches parts of grief that words alone haven't been able to touch.

Who This Is For: This workshop is for current clients carrying grief in any of its forms — the death of someone loved, but also the quieter griefs our culture rarely makes room for: a friendship that ended without a goodbye, a body that no longer works the way it used to, a future that dissolved before it arrived. Right now, it's offered to ages 18+.

Cost & Location: Cost varies and is offered on an adjusted-rate basis. Location is determined for each workshop based on the size of the circle. Details are shared directly with participating clients ahead of each date.

Next Workshop: October 24, 2026, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
